Herculean Effort in Engineering

Engineering is a very wide term, which contains too many branches and specialisations. Hence choosing the best branch that meets with your expectations is a herculean task because of the uncertainty about your aim. Most of the students chooses engineering as it provides a white collar job with good profile. But the current social scenario is not that much predictive and we can see too many engineering graduates searching for job and doing coaching even after completing engineering degree from top branches and colleges. Thus the selection of suitable branch and college is an important point when you going to start a new era of your life.

What is Engineering Degree?

What is Engineering

Engineering degree is normally called Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) or Bachelor of Engineering (BE) depending on the university. In kerala, there is only one university called Kerala Technical University or KTU which provides 4 year long ( 8 Semester) Bachelor of Technology degree. There are different branches within engineering such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Science etc. The above are called core engineering branches and there are other derived branches such as automobile engineering, chemical engineering, information technology, instrumentation engineering, aeronautical engineering etc. Most of the engineering colleges provides engineering courses for core branches and in some derived branches. The selection of suitable branch for engineering should be as per your interest towards the subject. This post will give you a clear idea regarding engineering and how to choose the most appropriate branch for you.
Engineering can be broadly called as an application of Science and scientific principles for human welfare and comfort. Scientist tries to observe nature and explains those phenomenon with valid reasons, whereas we engineers use these scientific principles to develop new devices and equipments for human welfare. Engineering is mainly application oriented, for example Albert Einstein explained photo Electric effect to the world and won Nobel price for that. Engineers used this explanation to develop silicon cells which generate electricity when they are exposed to solar radiation. The technology is now called solar cells and panels, what we use at roof top, in calculators and other electronic gadgets.

Why Engineering?

Why Studying Engineering

There are different types of expectations from the students, some are looking it as way to ensure top paid jobs and secure their life. Whereas some students are interested towards a more challenging field. For both of them, engineering is the best choice compared to other fields of study. If your aim is to a get a top paid job, you should be more focused towards your studies. After completing four year degree you will be entering into a very competitive environment where you have to use all the knowledge that you acquired during the past four years to battle in the field. There are hundreds of vacancies are called every year by public sector companies such as BPCL, HPCL, ONGC, NTPC, ISRO, BARC etc. The job in private sector requires some experience in the field, if you are looking for off campus selection. Some private companies visits top colleges for selection where your technical knowledge is evaluated for selection along with aptitude skills. Anyway, if your aim is a top paid job you should be thorough with engineering concept after 4 years as most of the engineering students are of these kind.
There are students, very rare in number, joins for engineering as they feels it as an innovative and challenging one. As I mentioned earlier, innovative ideas are the key to development and so many engineers are working on those fields. The research and development activities and innovative product development are the key areas in engineering. Design of new devices and equipments that meets the clients requirements are the responsibility of a design engineer. If you want to be a scientist or design engineer you should be thorough with your subject of interest not with the whole 4 year subjects. Deep learning the interested subject is a mandatory requirement for those kinds of students.
If you are coming under above two categories and interested in higher secondary physics and mathematics then you are an ideal guy for engineering

Are you Ready to become an Engineer?

Are you Ready to become an Engineer

Students were always found confused when I ask this question to higher secondary pass out students. Why is it so? Because those people are unaware about anything about engineering even though they studied fundamentals of all engineering branches. You may be thinking that when they studied fundamentals of Engineering, plus one and plus two physics are actually fundamentals of Engineering. If you revise your text books, you can see 1D, 2D &3D motions of bodies, Newton’s Laws, Fluid Mechanics, Work Power and Energy, Rotating Motion etc in plus one text books. These are the key fundamentals of Mechanical engineering.if you are a master of these subject and interested to explore more in that, take Mechanical Engineering as your career. Again, you can see Properties of Solids, Deflection of beams, Moment of Inertia etc in plus one physics, these are the basic concepts of Civil Engineering.
If you look into plus two physics text book, Electro magnetism, Electric charges, Current Electricity, Faraday’s Law and all, these are the fundamentals of Electrical engineering. If you are interested in those topics Electrical engineering will be the best branch for you. Again, Electronics, Amplifier circuits, Digital Electronics and Gates, Communication systems, FM and AM etc are the key concepts of Electronics and communication engineering. Computer Science and Engineering is another prominent branch where you you will learning about computer hardware and software, and developing new programs and applications for mobile and computers. The basics of computer science is taught as a separate subject during higher secondary course. But other students are also takes computer science due to keen interest and successful than plus two computer science students.
You know your interested area in physics during higher secondary course, it would be better if you select the same branch for engineering degree also.

Future of Engineering

Future of Engineering

Engineering is an evergreen area, there is no starting or ending for the scope. All your future after four years depends only on you, how you are completed the course and your awareness about the subject learned. Off campus opportunities are more compared to campus placements, but the environment is more competitive than the campus. The thing that matter for your future is only your knowledge about the subjects learned, ie, it is not branch depended or college depended,it solely depends on how you are doing engineering.
All the Best Guys
