Facts about India is an important topic on various SSC and PSC examination these days. The History of Modern India starts from 1857. But we should know some basic facts before 1857, which is after the advent of Portuguese (Europeans).

- The first European country came to India through sea were Portuguese
- In 1498 Vasco da Gama reached in India at Kappadu ( Calicut - Kerala )

- Afonso de Albuquerque is another Important Governor General who expanded Portuguese territory in India.
- Portuguese was the last country who leaves India in December 1961
- Operation Vijay - 'armed action' carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in December 1961 for the Annexation of Goa.
Dutch - 1602
- Dutch is the second European country to reach India
- The First Factory was build at Machili Patanam in Andra Pradesh
- In Battle of Badera with British East India Company In 1759, Dutch is defeated and leaved India
East India Company
- East India Company was established in 1600 in England
- They came to India in 1608
French
- French is the last one to came in India and First one leaved India
- They leaved India after a war known as Wandiwash with England at Vandavasi, Tamilnadu
- The Governor General during Wandiwash war was Marquis de Bussy-Castelnau
